SUMMARY:6GArch – 4th International Workshop on 6G Architecture – Call For Papers
DESCRIPTION:🕒 < 1 min10th edition combined with 5GArch Workshop Series\n\nIn conjunction with IEEE Globecom 2024\, Cape Town\, South Africa\, 8-12 December 2024\, https://globecom2024.ieee-globecom.org/ \nThis workshop is organised by the SNS JU 6G Architecture work group. \n– Objectives – Call for Papers – Important Dates/Submit a Paper – Workshop Organisers/Committee – Tentative Program – Past Editions \n  \n1.    Objectives of the workshop\nSince the early generations\, mobile and wireless communications systems have played a crucial role in establishing essential connectivity. They have facilitated easy access to information anytime and anywhere\, leading to accelerated knowledge build-up and value-added actions across various sectors of society. The significance of wireless communication infrastructure has been further highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic\, as it has supported global stability and faster recovery by maintaining a stable technological environment and seamless societal connections despite quarantine regulations. \nRecognizing the critical role and importance of mobile and wireless communications\, advancements in the telecommunications ecosystem are captured through non-backward compatible features specified in a new generation of mobile and wireless communications systems. Transitioning from one generation to the next requires significant efforts\, and the justification for a new generation must consider technical\, societal\, and economic factors. These factors are interconnected\, meaning that advancements in any of these areas can accelerate the overall process. For example\, the need to explore new business areas also entails supporting a diverse set of requirements. \nIn this context\, 3GPP standardization has progressed rapidly\, and more 5G system enhancements are reaching maturity with the completion of Release 17\, while Release 18 is marking the start of 5G-Advanced. Release 19 is underway to provide a guidance on what future the 6G system needs to be capable of\, and Release 20 is in preparation. At the same time\, the Smart Networks and Services (SNS JU) in Europe\, under the Horizon Europe program for Research and Innovation\, has started to date more than 60 project in Phases 1 and 2\, and more projects are underway. The European SNS JU program is a joint initiative between the private and the public side and focuses on 5G-Advanced and 6G. \nTo address the architectural evolution towards 6G\, the SNS 6G Architecture Working Group (WG) has evolved from the 5G PPP Architecture WG\, which has issued several white papers and an open-access book\, with the latest one specifically focusing on this workshop’s topics. The workshop aims to discuss novel key architectural innovations required for future 6G mobile telecommunications networks. It also provides a platform for projects working on long-term innovations and formulating research items under the 6G theme to share their visions\, requirements\, and architectural considerations for future mobile systems. \nThe thematic topics of the workshop revolve around technology enablers and design recommendations\, facilitating the transition from 5G-Advanced towards a fully-fledged 6G architecture. These topics will encompass areas such as network infrastructure\, spectrum utilization\, connectivity\, scalability\, sustainability\, security\, as well as joint/integrated communication and sensing\, among others. The workshop will source from the very vibrant SNS JU research community that is already working on the topics\, providing reference architectural solutions. \nIn summary\, the rapid progress in mobile telecommunications has demonstrated their crucial role in establishing connectivity and fostering knowledge sharing. The ongoing efforts in 5G standardization\, the SNS JU projects (and previously the 5G PPP projects)\, and the upcoming focus on 5G-Advanced and 6G research indicate the industry’s dedication to advancing mobile telecommunications systems. The workshop aims to explore architectural innovations and provide a collaborative platform to shape the future of mobile telecommunications systems. \n  \n2.    Call for Papers\nAs we witness the continuous strides toward the next generation of mobile network architectures\, there arises a critical need to discuss and consolidate architectural perspectives toward the definition of the 6th Generation of Mobile Network Architecture. \nThis involves encouraging researchers and engineers to contribute and exchange their insights and visions on various topics such as infrastructure\, spectrum utilization\, connectivity\, scalability\, sustainability\, and security\, among other key areas. \nIn the 6GArch workshop\, we delve into the evolving landscape of mobile and wireless communications systems\, calling for contributions on these emerging topics that are paramount to the definition of future mobile communications. SUMMARY:CENTRIC & 6G-SHINE participation in the webinar "Radio Resource Management for 6G in-X Subnetworks"
DESCRIPTION:🕒 < 1 min[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1718871165178{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\n\nDate: 26 June 2024\nTime: at 14:00 CEST Geneva | 08:00-09:00 EDT\, New York | 20:00-21:00 CST\, Beijing\nDuration: 1 hour (including 20 minutes networking)\nProgramme stream: Discovery – AI/ML in 5G\nTopics: 6G\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”REGISTER HERE” color=”warning” align=”center” css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Faiforgood.itu.int%2Fevent%2Fradio-resource-management-for-6g-in-x-subnetworks%2F|target:_blank”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1718871043335{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Radio resource management (RRM) involves selecting key transmission parameters—such as transmit power\, frequency resources\, precoder\, and modulation. The complexity of this process is expected to increase significantly with the tenfold densification anticipated in 6G networks compared to 5G. The concept of in-X subnetworks has been introduced as a further leap of heterogeneous network\, with the aim of providing highly localized wireless coverage for use cases such as in-robot\, in-production module\, in-vehicle\, in-room communication. These subnetworks are expected to support diverse services\, possibly extreme requirements in terms of ultra-short control cycle time\, reliability\, and service availability\, surpassing the capabilities of 5G and its evolution.  \nWhile the specific characteristics of in-X subnetworks can offer opportunities for efficient radio design\, interference can be a major limiting factor in dense deployments. Subnetworks may be then characterized by such high density (e.g.\, vehicles in a congested road\, robots in matrix production)\, and they can also be mobile\, leading to rapid interference fluctuations. These aspects may result in wide and rapidly fluctuating interference patterns\, which make the RRM problem more challenging than in traditional wireless setups\, characterized by static base stations/access points and lower cell densities.  \nThe radio resource management problem is usually non-convex with NP-hardness\, while traditional optimization methods and heuristics have shown efficacy in certain scenarios\, these algorithms have exponential computational complexity and typically require many iterations. The dynamic and complex environment of In-X subnetworks\, coupled with stringent low latency requirements\, calls for more adaptive solutions with lower computational complexity. This necessity is driving the adoption of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. This challenge\, supported by two EU SNS JU projects\, 6G-SHINE and CENTRIC\, focuses on developing machine learning-based solutions for optimizing sub-band allocation and power control within dense in-factory subnetworks.  \nThis live event includes a 20-minute networking event hosted on the AI for Good Neural Network. This is your opportunity to ask questions\, interact with the panelists and participants and build connections with the AI for Good community.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

In addition\, the project studies hardware and software enablers\, such as novel computational paradigms or the role of digital twins in supporting the AI-AI techniques. Last\, but not least\, methods for validation and benchmarking of the studied AI-AI techniques are as well in CENTRIC’s scope. \nIn the demo at EUCNC 2024 | 6G Summit 2024\, we showcase how the NVIDIA’s Neural receiver concept can be used to produce receiver structures that are specially optimized for a specific site deployment. On the one hand\, we show that the neural receiver structure can be trained with standardized stochastic channel models\, providing significant gains with respect to traditional MIMO receivers. However\, the neural receiver can be fine-tuned with a limited amount of data obtained at the base-station’s deployment site\, boosting its performance beyond that of the generically trained receiver. \nThis demo showcases a hardware-based validation setup for a neural-network based receiver for multi-user MIMO transmissions through a real 5G O-RAN network\, which consist of the following elements: \n \nThe signal generator (1) sends uplink signals of 2 single-antenna. The signal then travels through the channel emulator (2)\, which is fed ray-traced channel impulse responses observed at a particular base station location\, calculated with NVIDIA’s Sionna ray-tracer. The signal is received at an O-RU (3) with 4 antennas which digitizes the signals and delivers them to the O-DU emulator (4)\, which manages the O-RU’s control plane and synchronization. The O-RU’s data is fed to the PC (5) which runs NVIDIA’s 6G Neural Receiver to extract the payload by applying a pretrained neural network. The demo shows the advantage of the Neural receiver over classical benchmark\, as well as demonstrating the performance improvement resulting from fine-tuning the pre-trained network with a small amount of data obtained at the deployment site.

SUMMARY:Call for Papers for SYMPOSIUM ON VISION AND FACTS ON 6G AND FUTURE NETWORKS IN EUROPE
DESCRIPTION:🕒 < 1 minCall for Papers SYMPOSIUM ON VISION AND FACTS ON 6G AND FUTURE NETWORKS IN EUROPE \nThis symposium is co-organized by 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) and the RIGOUROUS project \n===================================================== \n2023 IEEE Future Networks World Forum (FNWF’23) \nTheme: Imagining the network of the future \n13-15 November 2023  \nBaltimore\, MD\, USA \n===================================================== \nIMPORTANT DATES \nSymposium Paper Submission: 21 July 2023 \nSymposium Paper Acceptance Notification: 1 September 2023 \nCamera-Ready Submission: 15 September 2023 \n  \nSymposium Co-Chairs \n* Antonio Skarmeta\, Universidad de Murcia\, Spain \n* Kostas Trichias\, 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) \n* Mario Scillia\, Programme Officer\, European Commission \n* Mikko A. Uusitalo\, Nokia Bell Labs \n  \nSCOPE AND MOTIVATION \nThe work for 6G Networks and Services has started and multiple activities are taking place at global level. Both evolutionary (from B5G networks onwards) and revolutionary approaches are followed to develop\, test and validate innovative technological enablers that will enable the future networks vision at global scale. Some of the aspects investigated by different stakeholders address system architecture\, wireless communication technologies and signal processing\, communication infrastructure technologies and devices and secure service development. \n  \nBesides the technological aspects and technical innovations expected\, 6G networks are also designed bearing in mind the key societal challenges that they must address including environmental\, economic and societal sustainability and technological sovereignty. A wholistic system design approach has become necessary\, addressing both technical and societal aspects and taking into account the complexities of the extended ICT infrastructure and services ecosystem (from vendors and operators\, to service providers and individual users). \n  \nWithin this global movement\, Europe is attempting to take a leading role towards the creation of a hopefully single 6G global standard\, both on a National level as well as on an EU-level. Some of the EU efforts in this sector can be reflected by the establishment of the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) as a legal and funding entity\, as well as by the creation of several National Initiatives (NI) on a member-state level\, through the funding of multi-million euro flagship projects\, targeting technology development\, fostering national innovation and maximization of business impact. \n  \nThe SNS-JU targets a reinforced European leadership in the field of next generation network technologies (6G)\, connected devices and services\, while accelerating European digital industry uptake and digitisation of economy and society.
